MW Clubb - Sisalwool Natural Fibre Insulation in a Historic Granite Home in Aberdeen

MW Clubb - Sisalwool Natural Fibre Insulation in a Historic Granite Home in Aberdeen

Project Overview:

Location: Aberdeen, Scotland

Property Type: Historic Granite House

Project Goals: Improve overall sustainability of the house and enhance energy efficiency while preserving the historic integrity.

A period granite house in Aberdeen, owned and cherished for over three decades, recently underwent a significant transformation. The owner decided to replace the old gas boiler with an air source heat pump (ASHP) and sought additional insulation to enhance the home's energy efficiency.

The owner enlisted a team of specialists, including a retrofit architect from MWClubb Architectural Design, to manage the project. They began with a thorough assessment of the house, ensuring the design met the regulations and approvals required for listed buildings.

Sisalwool Natural Fibre Insulation emerged as the ideal solution. Made from recycled natural wool and sisal, this insulation offers excellent thermal properties and is environmentally friendly. The Sisalwool insulation was installed in the walls, loft, and underfloor, complementing the new ASHP and significantly improving the home's warmth and energy efficiency.

MWClubb Architectural Design chose Sisalwool for its sustainability and responsible design principles. Forbes Solutions Ltd, the experts who installed the insulation, carefully placed each batt to preserve the home's historic integrity while enhancing its energy performance.

The result is a comfortable, efficient home that honours its heritage while embracing modern sustainability practises. The granite house in Aberdeen now stands as a model of eco-conscious renovation, thanks to Sisalwool Natural Fibre Insulation.
