Architects, surveyors and building professionals are invited to join a free accredited CPD session exploring how natural fibre insulation can reduce embodied carbon, improve building health, and deliver high-performance results across new build, retrofit and heritage projects.
The session takes place on Friday 29th May, 1–2pm at the Building Centre, London, and will provide practical, evidenced learning on sustainable material selection and specification.
This CPD takes place during the Small Scale, Big Ideas exhibition at the Building Centre, which runs throughout May and features Sisalwool as part of a collaborative showcase exploring how architects and engineers are rethinking the home through material innovation, sustainability and community-led design.
What the Session Will Cover
This one-hour CPD is designed for professionals seeking to make informed, sustainable choices when specifying insulation. The session covers five key themes:
-
Carbon reduction and embodied carbon: Understanding how insulation choice impacts whole-life carbon and why material selection at specification stage is critical
-
Limitations of mainstream insulation: Examining the environmental and health trade-offs of petrochemical and mineral-based products, including recyclability, particulate release and end-of-life disposal
-
Breathability and building health: How hygroscopic, vapour-permeable materials support moisture management and improve indoor air quality....particularly important in retrofit and heritage contexts
-
Sisalwool performance and specification: A detailed technical look at thermal performance, acoustic properties, fire classification, vapour permeability and achievable U-values
-
Real-world application: How to integrate natural insulation into live projects, covering detailing, junctions, building control and procurement
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this CPD, attendees will be able to assess the embodied carbon implications of insulation choices, specify Sisalwool with confidence across a range of applications, and articulate the performance and health benefits of natural insulation to clients and project teams.
