As we continue our countdown to the Royal Highland Show, we wanted to take a moment to talk about the people who make Sisalwool work…..not just in theory, but in real homes, real projects, and real buildings.
Natural insulation isn't a niche product anymore. It's being specified by architects, installed by builders, stocked by merchants, and chosen by self-builders and retrofitters who want something better than the standard offer.
Here's who we work with and how Sisalwool fits into what they're trying to achieve…..
1) House Builders and Developers
For builders working to meet (or exceed) Building Regulations, Sisalwool offers thermal performance without compromise. It's easy to handle, straightforward to install, and delivers on U-values while improving indoor air quality and moisture management.
It also helps differentiate developments. Homes built with natural materials are easier to market to environmentally conscious buyers, and they perform better over time.
2) Architects and Specifiers
Architects care about performance, aesthetics, and long-term building health. Sisalwool ticks all three.
It's a breathable, non-toxic insulation that works particularly well in timber frame, SIPS, and low-energy builds. It handles moisture intelligently, reduces condensation risk, and supports passive house principles without the plastic.
We work closely with practices that want to specify responsible materials that won't off-gas, won't degrade, and won't create future waste problems.
3) Self-Builders and Renovators
Self-builders are often the most informed clients we work with. They're building their own homes, so they care deeply about what goes into the walls.
Sisalwool gives them control over indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and environmental impact. It's also forgiving to work with….easy to cut, fit, and adjust on site without specialist tools or protective equipment.
For renovators and retrofitters, it's ideal for older properties where breathability matters. It works with the building, not against it.
4) Merchants and Stockists
We work with merchants who understand that their customers are asking different questions now. It's not just about price per square metre, it's about performance, sustainability, and what happens to the material at end of life.
Sisalwool is fully recyclable, low in embodied carbon, and carries all the certifications and technical backup that specifiers and builders need. It's a product merchants can stand behind.
5) Retrofitters and Low-Energy Specialists
Retrofit is where natural insulation really proves its worth. Many older homes were built to breathe, and wrapping them in plastic-based insulation can cause more problems than it solves.
Sisalwool allows moisture to move through the building fabric while still delivering excellent thermal performance. It reduces the risk of interstitial condensation and keeps buildings healthier for longer.
We're working with more and more retrofit specialists who are moving away from foam and mineral wool in favour of materials that respect the original building fabric.
Hoose: Making the Invisible, Visible
One of the challenges with insulation is that it's hidden. Once the walls are closed up, no one sees it, but everyone feels the result.
That's why we're excited to be working with Hoose and showcasing their innovative maquette at this year's Royal Highland Show.
Hoose specialises in low-energy, high-performance homes, buildings designed not just to perform well, but to improve over time. Rooted in regenerative thinking, care, and long-term value, Hoose works with clients through every stage of the self-build journey through its land-to-living approach. This includes helping clients understand how early decisions around design, structure, and natural materials influence comfort, energy use, and long-term performance.
The Hoose maquette is a full-scale sample build that shows exactly how a high-performance wall is constructed. In a cross section, you can see the timber structure, the insulation layers (including Sisalwool), the airtightness detailing, and the window installation.
It's a brilliant example of what's possible when natural materials, intelligent design, and careful detailing come together. And it makes the invisible visible.
The maquette has been on display at The Smith Art Gallery and Museum, and we're bringing it to Ingliston so that visitors to the Show can see what a properly insulated, breathable, high-performing wall looks like.
Why This Matters
Sisalwool works because it's being used by people who care about buildings, not just as structures, but as environments.
Whether you're a builder delivering homes that feel right, an architect specifying for the long term, or a self-builder creating your own space, the materials you choose matter.
Natural insulation isn't a compromise. It's a better way to build.
We'll see you at the Royal Highland Show and if you want to see what Sisalwool looks like in action, come and find the Hoose maquette. It's worth it.
